Closing date: 7 August 2019

Areas Affected

  • Lichfield District wide

Please give your feedback on our draft plan to reduce air pollution in two areas of the district between now and 2022.

Our draft air quality action plan outlines how we will reduce pollution in two ‘air quality management areas’. These are designated areas that are unlikely to meet national air quality objectives.

The plan aims to reduce nitrogen dioxide at Muckley Corner along the A5 and a section of the A38 between Streethay and Alrewas. It covers five areas of action, including: transport measures, leading by example, education, community and partnership, as well as statutory measures and air quality monitoring.

Air pollution has been shown to negatively impact on health, including contributing to the onset of heart disease and cancer. It affects the most vulnerable in society, such as children, the elderly and people with heart and lung conditions. It is also linked with inequality, because areas with poor air quality are often less affluent.
