In 2013 the government is making big changes to the welfare system. The government has also asked us to introduce a new local council tax support scheme to replace council tax benefit.
Changes from April 2013 Under the changes, some people’s housing benefit may go down, and lots of working age people will have to pay something towards their council tax, even if they have never paid anything before. Council tax payment dates and exemptions are also changing:

Other changes coming later in 2013 The government is also making changes to pension credit, local housing allowance (for tenants in private rented homes) and introducing a new personal independence payment for disabled people:
