Dog walking at Chasewater

Happy Dog

Dog walkers are always welcome at Chasewater Country Park.

Doggy friendly Areas

We understand that different dogs need different amounts of exercise and some dogs need a space just to burn off some excess energy. We have produced a map of 'dog friendly' areas where your dog can have off-lead freedom as long as it is not affecting anybody else in the park.

The areas are as follows:
Area A: The Causeway (accessed from the South Shore)
Area B: Jeffries Swag (accessed from Norton East Road or Chasewater Heath Railway Station)
Area C: The events field

Please note, while we are happy for dogs to be dogs in these areas, we do still request that you follow a few basic rules:

  1. Always clean up after your dog
  2. Don't let your dog approach other people or other dogs
  3. Put your dog on a lead if you are approaching wildlife

Sensitive areas at Chasewater

Please respect our wildlife

DeerWe are very lucky at Chasewater; the site is regularly grazed by a herd of red deer. They are used to the presence of people but please be aware they are wild animals and should be treated with respect at all times. Keep your distance, walk slowly and put any dogs on leads.

Some areas of the site are also naturally grazed by cattle during the year. These areas are fenced but the public footpath runs through the area. Exercise caution when walking through these areas and keep any dogs on leads.

The nesting season for birds is traditionally between March and September. Please adhere to onsite signage during these periods and help us protect our very special wildlife.

During your visit to Chasewater Country Park please follow The Countryside Code and follow our crucial rule 'take nothing but pictures and leave nothing but footprints'.

Chasewater dam improvements

Please note, the whole of the reservoir bed is out of bounds for everyone, including dogs, while the improvements to Chasewater's eastern dam take place.  This is because the mud is dangerous and could be far deeper than it appears.
