St Barbara's Play Area Launch

The official opening of St Barbara's playground

A brand new play area in Handsacre, full of fun equipment, was officially opened by local dignitaries recently.

St Barbara's new and improved play area, packed with play equipment to keep children entertained for hours, was officially opened by Councillor Martyn Tittley, Chairman of Armitage with Handsacre Parish Council, Councillor John Wilks, District Council Chairman, and County Councillor Eric Drinkwater, on Saturday 30 March.

Armitage with Handsacre Parish Council secured £45,000 funding from the county council's Playbuilder programme to totally transform St Barbara's old playground. They then called Lichfield District Council in to manage the consultation, and oversee the design and creation of the new play area.

The district council's Leisure Team asked lots of local children what equipment they would most like to play on, and fed their ideas into the designs for the play area.

Children can now enjoy playing on a tyre swing, rotator, spider's web, basket swing and on a giant see-saw.

Armitage with Handsacre District Councillor, Martyn Tittley, said: "St Barbara's new play area is fantastic and will keep local children entertained for hours. This project is a great example of partnership working and I'd like to thank everyone who helped to get such wonderful results."

The new play area follows the creation of a fabulous new £45,000 multi use games area, funded by the Big Lottery Fund Children's Play Programme, which was opened last year.
