Published on Monday, 16th November 2009

Local agencies, groups and volunteers are inviting Burntwood locals to welcome the festive season in by joining a lantern parade through Burntwood.

After the procession, Burntwood Brigade Band will lead a sing along carol concert in the grounds of Burntwood Leisure Centre.

And everyone is welcome to drop in at a series of free lantern making workshops. So, from a fish or a car, to a Christmas tree or a festive bauble, local people have the opportunity to create a magical lantern. The workshops will be running from 5 to 10 December at Burntwood Youth Centre, Cherry Close, in Burntwood.

Workshop times

  • Saturday 5 December from 11am to 3pm
  • Sunday 6 December from 11am to 3pm
  • Monday 7 December from 4pm to 8pm
  • Wednesday 9 December from 4pm to 8pm
  • Thursday 10 December from 4pm to 8pm

Ryan Waldron, Burntwood Community Development Worker, said: "I think local people will be amazed by the procession, and I hope lots of people get involved. The event is open to everyone, so even if you're not parading a lantern, come down and follow the parade and take part in the carol concert."

Deputy County Council Leader and Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, Ian Parry, added: "The Lichfield procession was a real success, and I am delighted that Burntwood locals will be able to get involved in their own parade this December. This will be a fantastic celebration of the Burntwood community and I do hope lots of people will take part, or simply cheer those on who pass by with their lanterns."

The parade is free to attend and will take place on Saturday the 12th December at Burntwood Youth Centre, Cherry Close, Burntwood. If you want to take part, please arrive at 6pm for a 6:30pm start.

Please note, children under 12 years of age need to be accompanied by a responsible person aged 16 or over at the workshops and the parade.
