Lichfield District Council welcomes the news that work is starting on site to create a new retail park in Lichfield
Developers Cranford and Bride Hall will be setting to work on a new shopping development off Eastern Avenue in Lichfield this November.
The 58,000 square foot retail scheme is on the former sites of Lichfield District Council's waste and recycling depot and the old Martin and Field Factory.
When complete, Lichfield Retail Park will be home to a variety of stores, including: Wickes, Halfords, Carpetright, Pets at Home and SleepMaster.
Robert Oakley, Director of Cranford Developments, said: "It is always rewarding when building work starts on site, particularly when we are regenerating redundant brownfield sites such as this one. Lichfield Retail Park will offer local people a fantastic range of new shops, and I am sure it will be very popular with locals and visitors to Lichfield."
Nigel Desmond, Managing Director of Bride Hall, commented: "Bride Hall are very pleased to be investing in Lichfield and are confident that the shopping park will prove to be great success."
Councillor David S. Smith, Leader of Lichfield District Council, added: "We're delighted that, despite the current financial climate, Lichfield continues to attract big named stores. This development is great news for the district, creating more jobs and opportunities for local shoppers to stock up on a large range of items without having to travel out of the district."
Work is expected to be completed on Lichfield Retail Park towards the end of 2010.
For more information about the development please contact Cranford on 01902 623838 or Bride Hall on 0207 493 3996.

great news for the district
I'm glad that we will have another DIY store after Tesco's shut down Focus.
I'm so exited because focus has closed down and now we've got Wickes
we seriously need shops, which will be useful to people, for everyday essentials.
It wouldn't hurt to have a clothing store i.e. Next, as lichfield lacks clothes and shops for younger people and children, except Tescos.
Do we not already have a few Petshops in lichfield city centre??? Seriously how many do we need in a small area like Lichfield?
More clothing shops are essentials.
A home-store would also be ideal.
The council needs to consider this concept, and what it is that Lichfield really requires.
Slightly disappointed with a Carpet Right and Sleep Master, a TK Maxx/Primark wouldn't have gone a miss, all in all a prime location, and yes Lichfield drastically needed a new DIY store, and I'm sure my pets won't mind the other new addition!
really excited about wickes and pets at home. carpet right and sleepmaster not the best choices i agree with other comments. a next or clothing shop would of been great. altthough i no there are plans in lichfield town centre for clothes shops coming in but when will this be?
These new retail stores sound great. It means that there are more jobs availaible to the currently un-employed in lichfield.
However I do agree with everyone else about the new pet store. There's one in the centre, one outside of the centre and now there's going to be another one!
We also have a store that sells carpets! Why do we need another one???
Lichfield does need more clothes shops. Tesco's, Burton's and the Peer Group does some excellent clothes but it's not enough. There are just as many stores selling trackies.
