A decision at a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday 15 December signified an important step in the development of Lichfield's proposed Friarsgate shopping and leisure complex.

The Cabinet approved the terms of a Supplemental Agreement with S. Harrison Developments Ltd which extended the date for the Development Agreement to become unconditional until the 31st December 2012, a date that could be further extended should a Compulsory Purchase Order prove necessary.

Councillor David S. Smith, Leader of Lichfield District Council, commented: "Given the current economic climate, this is an important step forward. It signifies the confidence of the District Council, our development partner and prospective retailers, in this important development for the future of Lichfield city centre."
