Our role in local emergencies

We are a Category 1 responder, as defined in the Civil Contingencies Act 2004.

The Civil Contingencies Act 2004 defines an emergency / major incident as "an event or situation which threatens serious damage to human welfare in a place in the UK, the environment of a place in the UK, or war or terrorism which threatens serious damage to the security of the UK".

As part of our work, we liaise closely with Staffordshire's Civil Contingencies Unit, emergency services, other local authorities, health authorities and various other organisations to prepare for and assist in emergencies.
