Trees

We manage the trees in our parks and open spaces, as well as administer applications for work to protected trees and hedgerows, and investigates high hedge complaints across the district.

Trees are an important element in the landscape of towns and rural areas. Not only are they attractive to look at, they have other benefits too:

• Encourage wildlife, screen unpleasant views, give shade and privacy and are great educational resources.
• As the effects of climate change occur, shaded areas in towns and gardens will become important in order to make our homes and towns pleasant places to live in. Trees act as nature's air conditioning, helping to keep built-up areas cool in summer. 
• Trees have health benefits as they filter out dust and pollution from car exhausts to keep the air clean. Living, working and relaxing in an environment which is rich in trees is good for our mental well-being too.
• Property values are affected by the appearance of a locality. Having trees in an area can increase house values by up to 15%.
  

Of course trees need care and attention to keep them looking good or to prevent problems occurring. We also work to plant new trees to benefit us and future generations.
