Chasewater Country Park
Wildlife at Chasewater
Habitats
Chasewater Country Park has many varying and interesting habitats to support its wildlife. See the birds that feed on or over the water or simply use it to roost.
Look out for the different types of heathland each with a particular heather species, ling heather, bell heather and cross-leaved heather.
Look for hawthorn and bird scrub and willow carr that are good for songbirds. Find the grasslands with wild flowers and butterflies. Admire the flowers and other plants in the bogs and fens from a footpath, but please don't stray from the path as they are easily damaged.
Pick up our leaflet on Natural History for Visitors from the Rangers Office.
Animals
You may catch a glimpse of a rabbit or fox or even a resident red deer. You may even be lucky enough to spot a common lizard.
Birds
The reservoir is also a home for mute swans, Canada geese and mallard. The yellow leg rings on the swans have letters to identify individual birds. Look out for the less common birds such as the great crested grebe that dives for small fish or the wagtail as it flits and bobs along the shoreline.
