Fraud data

Local Authorities no longer investigate housing benefit fraud - this service was transferred to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) in June 2016. If, in the course of an investigation of benefits, the DWP find that housing benefit is involved, any overpayment will be recorded on the system as fraud and will be subject to the council’s recovery procedure.
