At Lichfield District Council’s Annual Council meeting on Tuesday 16 May 2017, Cllr Mark Warfield was sworn in as the new Chairman and Cllr Bob Awty was sworn in as Vice Chairman.
As the Chairman, Cllr Warfield will represent the district at a wide range of functions across the district and region, including royal visits, community and charity events and formal openings. He will also chair council meetings and work throughout the year to raise money for charity.
Cllr Mark Warfield, Chairman of Lichfield District Council, said:
“I am honoured to take up the role of Chairman. I am looking forward to representing the district council at the many events and functions that are held throughout the year. It will be a good opportunity to meet local people and to find out more about community projects.”
The Chairman’s charity is Lichfield & District Talking Newspaper. He will update an online blog at www.lichfielddc.gov.uk/chairmansblog
Cllr Warfield took over the role of chairman from Councillor David Salter.
Cllr David Salter, Chairman of Lichfield District Council from May 2016 to May 2017, said:
“It has been an immense privilege to have been elected to represent Lichfield District Council as its Chairman for the past year.
“The role has far exceeded my expectations and has provided countless highlights and the opportunity to realise several personal ambitions.
“Having come from the humble background of being born in a back-to-back council house in Birmingham, I feel I need to pinch myself to believe that I have had the honour of representing the council across and beyond the district of Lichfield at functions and events, ranging from cutting ribbons to welcoming senior royalty.
“I thank all of my fellow councillors for having the faith in me to represent them and I also thank the officers and staff along with previous Chairs for all their help and advice and of course I thank Pam, my wife, for putting up with, and supporting me.
“I wish Cllr Mark Warfield every success for his year in office and advise him to relish every moment as it will be over far too quickly.”
At the Annual Council meeting, Councillor Mike Wilcox, Leader of Lichfield District Council, also announced that Cabinet would go from eight to six roles, following a restructure.
Cllr Mike Wilcox said:
“I would like to thank Cllr Colin Greatorex and Cllr Helen Fisher for their dedication and hard work on Cabinet. However, I am confident that our new Cabinet has a wealth of talent and experience and look forward to continuing to work with them.”
