Young people across Lichfield District are being encouraged to get up, get active, and getin2it this half term.
Through its diversionary programme, Getin2it, Lichfield District council is offering a wide range of activities for young people across the district.
There are a range of sessions on offer for young people aged between 7 and 25, including multi sports, parkour, dancing, boxing, skateboard tuition, Trampolining and UV sports.
The activities will take place at a number of venues across the district, including Burntwood Leisure Centre, Open House at Cherry Close and Erasmus Darwin Academy in Burntwood, as well as at Friary Grange Leisure Centre and Minster Hall in Lichfield.
Councillor Iain Eadie, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said:
“We know how important it is for young people to put down their devices and to connect with others in person. Not only does it improve their fitness, but it’s also great at improving their social interaction. This is why we are encouraging young people to come along and have a go at our range of low cost sessions that have proved really popular over the years. The majority are run in Burntwood, but we do offer a limited number in Lichfield.”
The sessions generally cost £1 or £2 or are free and do not need to be booked.
This half term, the council is also offering a level 1 qualification in sports leadership to young people aged 13 and above. Gaining the nationally recognised qualification enables successful learners to assist in leading sport and physical activities, under direct supervision.
The course will take place at Erasmus Darwin Academy in Burntwood from 29 May to 1 June between 9.30am and 3.30pm. It’s free, but a £10 deposit is needed to secure your place, which will be returned at the end of the course (if the young person lives or goes to school within the district). To find out more and to book your place, email firstname.lastname@example.org by Thursday 24 May 2018.
