Public art audit - can you help?
Help us to create a database of all the public art in the district
If you live or work in Lichfield District, one thing you'll probably have noticed is the richness of local public artwork - from the sculpture of Dr Johnson in Lichfield’s Market Square to the Shining Stone in Shenstone, there are all sorts of artworks on display for everyone to visit and enjoy.
We are carrying out a quick audit of all the public art in the district, including public artworks we don’t own or maintain, and we need your help to make sure our list is complete!
Please take a look at the lists below and email artsdevofficer@lichfielddc.gov.uk if you have any more information or interesting stories about the artworks you could share with us. Please also let us know if any artworks are missing from our lists.
How will we use this information?
We'll use the information we gather to improve our visitor website www.visitlichfield.co.uk and to encourage more and more people around the district to enjoy the public arts on offer. We'll also use it to inform any future plans we may develop around public art.
Thank you for your help.

Carvings into sandstone |
Shortbutts Park, Lichfield |
Heroes is an ongoing piece started in 2010. It is inspired by iconography and relies upon the continuous carving of heroes' names into the soft sandstones by the community. As such it is never finished and will evolve over decades, as new 'heroes' emerge to replace old ones worn away by weather and time. Feel free to contribute to this piece by visiting Shortbutts Park and carving your heroes' names into the sandstones. |
