Do I need planning permission?
Depending on the changes you want to make, you may or may not need planning permission.
It's important to remember that the laws governing whether or not planning permission is needed are complex, so we always recommend checking first before carrying out any work.
- You can make certain types of minor changes to your house/business without needing to apply for planning permission (these are called permitted development rights). To find out what may considered permitted development and may not require planning permission, visit the Planning Portal website.
- Whether or not you need planning permission, you will still probably need building control advice, which helps to make sure that government-set building regulations are met in new builds, extensions and existing buildings.
If you are at all unsure about whether you need planning permission, always contact our contact our development management team.
Please be aware that it is not possible to tell you over the phone whether or not planning permission is required, and we may need to make an appointment to meet you/view plans.
