Shaping the future of Lichfield city centre

Lichfield District Council is developing a new masterplan for Lichfield city centre.

The plan is being created with the views of residents from across the district, local businesses, partners and more, and will make sure that Lichfield city meets the needs of its growing and changing population in years to come.

David Lock Associates, who have been appointed to help shape the new city masterplan, have prepared an analysis, issues & options report on the city centre. The report provides a review of the evidence base assembled to date, and outlines issues and options based on that evidence and is also informed by the responses received to the consultation held in spring 2019 and more recent stakeholder surgery sessions.

They have also prepared a draft masterplan for a wide ranging public consultation exercise early in 2020 that will then help develop a finalised masterplan. The new plan, which includes proposals for the future of the Birmingham Road site and its interaction with the overall city centre, is essential if we are to develop Lichfield city positively for future generations. In the short term, temporary improvements to the Birmingham Road Site will start in January 2020 and are expected to be completed by spring 2020.

The draft Lichfield City Centre Masterplan will be consulted on from 6 January to 3 February 2020 - find out how to give your views.
