Priority six: fraud

Early intervention prevention

We want to:

  • gain a greater understanding of the issues around fraud across the district
  • see increased resilience in those susceptible to fraud

To do this, we will:

  • share information and data between groups and agencies to gain a greater understanding of the issues within the district
  • ensure residents know where to report fraud and get information
  • target awareness raising activity at those most at risk of becoming victims of fraud in terms of demographic and geographical location.

Managing perpetrators

We want to:

  • deter perpetrators

To do this, we will:

  • promote the actions being taken to build resilience to act as a deterrent.

Supporting victims and witnesses

We want to:

  • gain a greater understanding of the prevalence of fraud and the methodologies employed and help overcome the stigma of being a victim

To do this, we will:

  • raise awareness of the sophisticated approaches employed and the extent of fraud
  • raise awareness of the support available for victims and encourage reporting

Public confidence

We want to:

  • see greater awareness of the crime
  • fewer people in the district becoming victims

To do this, we will:

  • raise awareness of current frauds and methodologies using a variety of approaches targeted at a range of audiences
