Lichfield District Safer Neighbourhood Panel

If you live in Lichfield District, you can join an independent panel that has been set up by Matthew Ellis, the Police and Crime Commissioner, to influence policing at the most local level in their communities.

Safer neighbourhood panels are made up of local residents and some local councillors who meet regularly with their area’s policing commander.

Their aim is to shape local policing and community safety and shine the spotlight on the work carried out by the police to ensure greater transparency and help build public confidence. They examine the impact of policing, community resolutions and restorative justice on their communities.

Panel members receive training to help them carry out their role so that they can be involved in innovative work such as examining body camera footage captured during stop and searches.

The safer neighbourhood panels follow the success of the Ethics, Transparency and Audit Panel (ETAP). The ETAP was established as an overarching panel for Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent as part of the commissioner’s ambition to make policing in Staffordshire the most open, transparent and ethical in the country.

Local residents are central to the panels and anyone interested should email the safer neighbourhood co-ordinator or call them on 01543 500404.
