Coronavirus community support

Emergency shopping scheme

We are working with Central England Co-operative to provide an emergency shopping service for residents who are self-isolating during the COVID-19 crisis.

This service is aimed at Lichfield District residents who are self-isolating due to having COVID-19 symptoms, but who do not have support from friends, family or community volunteers.

We are contacting residents who have been identified as vulnerable and self-isolating to find out what support they need during the COVID-19 crisis. These residents are being given the option to place a shopping order with Central England Co-operative.

To make sure residents are protected, the callers are not asking for any payment details

Council staff from a cross section of departments are collating the orders for the Co-op to pack and prepare, and these are then being collected and delivered by dedicated council delivery drivers.

Residents who use the service will be asked to take in the shopping orders which will be left in a secure place. The delivery driver will witness from a distance to ensure the delivery is received by the customer. We will be working to help anyone who cannot collect their shopping from their doorstep or porch.

The emergency shopping service excludes:

  • People who have been identified by the NHS as extremely vulnerable and have received a letter from the NHS giving them specific instructions to follow. This group of people are being directed to the government’s dedicated helpline and if they have no friend or family support are being provided with food packages. Find out more on about getting support if you are extremely vulnerable. If you register for a food package from government, you will need the letter from the NHS and your NHS number which should be at the top of the relevant letter.
  • Tenants of Bromford Housing Association - Bromford is working to identify all of their residents who are self-isolating and they will be offered support by their neighbourhood coaches. Bromford residents who need support with food shopping are encouraged to contact their neighbourhood coach. Find out more about what support Bromford is offering.
