Emergency shopping scheme

We set up the emergency shopping scheme with Central England Co-operative in March to help people who were self-isolating get the food they needed. Since then we’ve made 950 food deliveries and helped over 220 people. The success of the scheme has seen it rolled out across Staffordshire.

As lockdown has eased, the number of residents relying on the scheme has reduced, but there are still around 68 residents making regular orders and who need help with collecting shopping. As a result, we are handing the scheme to Live at Home Lichfield and Burntwood who will work with Central England Co-op.

From 6 July customers will have their shopping needs met through the revised scheme, which includes:

  • Customers call Central England Co-op’s helpline number 0800 050 1601 and place their order by phone
  • Customers can then get a friend, family member or neighbour to collect their order or
  • Live At Home volunteers can collect orders the day after the order is placed and deliver that afternoon

The customers who rely on the service have been advised of the new arrangements and we will continue to signpost any customers who need help with their shopping and who need any other help.

Live at Home will also support local people who are able to take steps towards greater independence.
