Christmas bin collections and recycling reminder
New 2020 bin calendars have been sent to every household across Lichfield District, which also include information about Christmas bin collections.
Local households that have their bins emptied on a Wednesday or a Thursday will have some changes to their bin collections over the festive period.
Bins will not be emptied on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day - Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 December and Wednesday 1 January.
Anyone whose bin day is on a Wednesday or a Thursday will need to check their new bin calendar to find out when their replacement festive collections will take place.
The Lichfield & Tamworth Shared Waste Service is also placing stickers on the affected bins to advise residents of the replacement festive dates. Please make sure your bins are out by 6.30am on your bin day so as not to miss your collection.
The garden waste service will be suspended over Christmas and into the new year. Residents should check their calendars for their first brown bin collection date in 2020.
Councillor Liz little, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Recycling & Leisure Services, said:
“We know our residents find our bin calendars a useful resource to remember when to put out their bins and which bins to put out each week.
“I would encourage all local homes that have a collection that falls on a Wednesday or a Thursday to double check their bin calendars to make sure they don’t miss their replacement bin day. We’re also putting bin stickers on all the bins that will be affected as a further reminder to local homes.”
Calendars can also be downloaded by visiting www.lichfielddc.gov.uk/bincalendar, entering your postcode and then selecting ‘download collection calendar’. You can also call the Lichfield and Tamworth Shared Waste Service on 0345 002 0022.
The Shared Waste Service is also reminding local households to recycle over Christmas and remember not to use black bin liners for their recycling. Items should go in blue bins loose or in clear plastic bags.
Festive waste that should go in blue bins includes wrapping paper and Christmas cards that don’t contain any foil or glitter, cardboard and plastic packaging, mulled wine, brandy and sherry bottles, and food containers, such as mince pie foil cases and plastic brandy butter tubs!
Festive waste that should go in brown bins includes real Christmas trees, which need to be chopped up to fit in bins with the lids closed, and real holly and ivy decorations.
