Changes to sports hall and all-weather pitch bookings
The way clubs and leisure centre users book Friary Grange Leisure Centre’s sports hall and all-weather pitch is set to change from 1 May 2020.
Significant progress has been made following Lichfield District Council’s decision in October 2019 to invest up to £695,000 to keep Friary Grange Leisure Centre open for up to five years. The necessary leases and contracts are almost in place, which will allow the council and its operator, Freedom Leisure, to continue to run the majority of the facility, which is great news for residents in Lichfield and beyond.
There are some changes to the lease arrangements that will affect use of the sports hall and all-weather synthetic pitch. From 1 May 2020 The Friary School will take over the management of both these areas. This means all clubs and customers who want to use the sports hall or all-weather pitch after 1 May will need to contact The Friary School to discuss booking options.
Freedom Leisure will be contacting their affected customers to help users of these two facilities to contact The Friary School to discuss future options. They will also be offering alternative options for individuals from within their own leisure centres.
Councillor Liz Little, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Recycling & Leisure, said:
“We are committed to keeping Friary Grange Leisure Centre open and are working to secure the long-term future for sport and leisure provision in Lichfield.”
