Business support in response to COVID-19
We are advising all local businesses that we are working to administer the business rates holiday for retail, hospitality and leisure businesses across the district and the grant support payments.
Cllr Andy Smith, Cabinet Member for Customer Services & Innovation and Cllr Rob Strachan, Cabinet Member for Finance & Procurement, have released a joint statement about the business support measures that Lichfield District Council will be administering:
“The government has introduced a business rates holiday for retail, hospitality and leisure businesses in England for the 2020 to 2021 tax year, which we will be administering locally. It has also been extended to non-local authority providers of childcare.
“We are working as fast as we can to get the new business rates bills out to all the businesses that will benefit from the 100% discount. We are aiming for this to be in early April.
“In the meantime, we will not be taking out business rates by direct debit from any businesses that had already qualified for the business rates retail discount, as shown on the original business rates bills.
“We are also advising all businesses that pay by a different method, such as online or by cash, which had also already qualified for the discount, that they do not need to pay their business rates bills this coming financial year.
“To reiterate, all the businesses - including the new ones - that qualify for the business rates holiday will receive their replacement bills in the coming weeks that set out that they will not have to pay any business rates for this coming financial year.
“On top of this, all businesses that receive small business rates relief - regardless of the sector - will be eligible for a cash payment of £10,000, which is an increase on the £3,000 announced set out in the budget.
“Businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors with rateable values of less than £51,000 will also receive a cash grant of £25,000.
“As soon as we have more information about how we will be administering the grant payments, we will update the business support page of our new coronavirus section on our website at www.lichfielddc.gov.uk/coronavirus.
“We know this is a very worrying time for everyone and that it is having an impact on businesses, employers and employees. To find out more advice and support, such as business loans, sick pay and universal credit, please go to the guidance for employees, employers and businesses on the government’s website.”
