Thunderstorms and potential flooding

Lightening over houses

Weather warnings for thunderstorms and possible flooding are in force in Staffordshire for the next few days.

Heavy showers and thunderstorms across the Staffordshire area throughout the week could lead to some significant surface water flooding and some localised river flooding in some communities. It is possible there maybe disruption to travel and flooding of individual properties.

Environment Agency teams are out on the ground and will support local authorities and partners responding to flooding. They are urging people to take notice of any flood alerts and warnings issued and not to drive though flood water – it is often deeper than it looks and just 30cm of flowing water is enough to float your car.

People should check their flood risk, sign up for free flood warnings and keep up to date with the latest situation at gov.uk, the flood guidance statement or by following @EnvAgency on Twitter for the latest flood updates. You can also find out more on the council's flooding page.
