Covid testing to take place in Lichfield

Free parking for NHS, health and social care workers

To help increase local access to coronavirus testing, a Mobile Testing Unit will once again be available in a Lichfield city centre car park on a series of days in December and January.

People from Lichfield district and the surrounding area who have Covid-19 symptoms will be directed to a Mobile Testing Unit in Lichfield if it is available when they book a test online or through the NHS by calling 119.

The testing site will be located at University West car park in Lichfield. This means the car park will be closed to vehicles on a number of days in December and January. However, the bus stops and University East car park will remain open.

Alternative parking is available across the city with the two closest being University East car park and The Friary car park. View the city centre car park map. Anyone who has a season ticket for University West can use it at any other long-stay car park operated by Lichfield District Council.

Councillor Liz Little, Cabinet Member responsible for Economic Development, said:

“I am pleased we are once again able to support the county council and NHS by hosting a Mobile Testing Unit in Lichfield to enable more local people to be tested.

“Testing people who have symptoms is one of the main ways we can stop the spread of the virus, and I would urge anyone who has symptoms - which include a high temperature, a new, continuous cough, a loss or change in the sense of smell or taste - to book a test.

“I am sure car park users will again be understanding of the need to temporarily close the car park to make way for this important facility, and I hope it doesn’t cause too much disruption.”

The dates the car park is set to close will be released each week as they could be subject to change. The first dates are: Tuesday 1, Wednesday 2, Thursday 3 and Friday 4 December 2020.
