The Great British Spring Clean 2021
Everyone is being reminded to get set for the country’s biggest mass-action community clean-up this spring.
2021’s Great British Spring Clean gets underway later this week. Led by Keep Britain Tidy, the initiative encourages local communities to tackle litter in their areas between 28 May and 13 June.
This year organisers have set the Million Mile Mission, which involves individuals and groups pledging how much time they will spend litter picking, which is converted into miles in the hope that by the summer everyone can enjoy a cleaner, greener, litter-free environment. So far more than 780,800 miles have already been pledged.
Lichfield District Council will continue to lend its support by providing litter pickers and red bin bags, as well as arranging for the waste to be collected from agreed locations that are accessible to vehicles. So far it has loaned out around 80 litter pickers to groups and individuals taking part in the campaign.
Councillor Ashley Yeates, Cabinet Member responsible for Recycling, said:
“We have lots of amazing groups and individuals across the district who volunteer all year-round, helping us to keep the district looking beautiful.
“The Great British Spring Clean offers everyone the chance to become litter heroes and either join in with a community litter pick or take part as an individual, even if that’s simply checking the pavement in front of your home is free of litter.”
There are a limited amount of litter pickers left, which are issued on a first come first served basis. To book litter pickers, red bin bags, and waste collection, please email Nicky Haycock or call 01543 687550.
