February half term fun
From beginner’s tennis and StreetGolf, to outdoor archery and park events, there is lots on offer for children and young people this half term.
Lichfield District Council has launched its February half term holiday programme, which is packed with active sessions to keep young people busy and engaged.
The council’s Getin2it sessions for young people aged from 7 to 25 will run over the half term week. They include sessions in multi sports, boxing, trampolining, dance and parkour. Most activities cost just £1 and do not need to be booked.
New for this holiday, is Serves Tennis for anyone who wants to have a go at tennis, outdoor sucker archery, and StreetGolf, which is an urban form of golf that is not played on a traditional course but on any terrain. These sessions cost £2.
Getin2it holiday activities take place at a range of venues across Burntwood and Lichfield, including Burntwood Leisure Centre, Chase Terrace Park, Redwood Park and Cherry Close in Burntwood, as well as Friary Grange Leisure Centre, Beacon Park and Stowe Fields next to Stowe Pool in Lichfield.
Over at Beacon Park, families can continue to follow a ‘Twig Hunt and Keep Warm Trail’, which is available at the park until 24 February. The trail helps children identify some common British trees and has some fun exercise challenges to keep them warm along the way. There is also a wheelchair friendly, accessible version. Trails are available from the Ranger Station between 9.30am and 3pm for £1.
During half term week, children can also have a go at making a hobby horse out of an old sock. The hobby horse workshops will run at the park’s Discovery Hub on Saturday 16 and Monday 18 February at 10am, 11.30am and 1.30pm. Each one-hour session costs £2, and places need to be booked by calling 01543 308867 or emailing [email protected]. Participants will need to bring an old, clean sock and be accompanied by an adult.
Councillor David Leytham, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said:
“We’ve got plenty on offer for children and young people this February half term. It can be difficult to get young people away from their screens, so having a go at our Getin2it sessions in Lichfield and Burntwood, or taking part in a park activity, is a good way to get them out of the house and engaged in positive activities.”
