Bids invited for Community Infrastructure Levy funding to support strategic infrastructure projects in the district

Organisations are being asked to submit and Expression of Interest form.
The Community Infrastructure Levy helps groups and organisations deliver projects in the district.

Organisations responsible for delivering strategic infrastructure across Lichfield District are encouraged to bid for funding from the CIL.

Lichfield District Council has launched a bidding round for the funding from CIL which helps local authorities to deliver the infrastructure needed to support development in their area.

CIL is a standard, non-negotiable charge applicable to any development that involves either a net increase of 100 square metres of floor space, or the creation of one or more dwellings.

In addition to supporting strategic infrastructure projects, the funding also benefits neighbourhoods, through Neighbourhood CIL paid to parish and town councils, and funds mitigation against the impact of development on the Cannock Chase Special Area of Conservation.

£1.4 million of strategic CIL funding is available to help groups and organisations to deliver infrastructure projects within the district.

Organisations are asked to submit an Expression of Interest form which contains details of the scoring criteria, against which all bids for strategic CIL funding will be assessed.

The criteria will help determine how well the proposed strategic infrastructure projects are likely to deliver benefits to the district.

Applications for monies will only be considered from projects that deliver infrastructure needs identified in the District Council’s Infrastructure Funding Statement and address requirements articulated within the District Council’s Infrastructure Delivery Plan.

Councillor Iain Eadie, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economic Growth and Development, said: “The Community Infrastructure Levy is an important instrument for providing new community assets, needed when development happens in our district.

“We hope to receive applications from organisations looking to fund their infrastructure projects to improve the lives of people living locally.”

Full details of the Community Infrastructure Levy, and how to bid are available on the Lichfield District Council website.

Expressions of interest for strategic CIL funding must be submitted by 5pm on 28 November 2022.
