Submit a regulation 77 application

Special areas of conservation (SACs) are protected areas in the UK, designated under the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2017 (as amended).  

SACs form a network of important high-quality conservation sites that make a significant contribution to conserving habitats and species of conservation concern throughout Europe. 

One special area of conservation can be found in Lichfield District – this is the River Mease SAC . 

Lichfield District is also within the zones of influence of three other special areas of conservation

Regulation 73 of the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2010 imposes a condition on any permission granted by the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) (England) Order 2015 (as amended) (hereafter referred to as ‘ the Order’) that is likely to have a significant effect on a special area of conservation that it must not commence until the developer has received written notification of the approval of the local planning authority under Regulation 77 of these regulations that it will not, with or without mitigation, have an impact on the integrity of that SAC.

The above has particular implications for permitted development which is likely to affect an SAC.
