The new campaign aims to boost recycling and reduce waste across more communities.

Residents across Lichfield District and Tamworth are being encouraged to stop and think before throwing items into their black bin that could be recycled.

Over the coming weeks, bin stickers will start appearing on black waste bins in both areas. These aim to remind people to pause and consider whether common recyclable items, like paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, cans, glass bottles, tin foil, plastic pots, tubs and trays, and aerosols, belong in their blue recycling bin or bag instead.

The campaign is part of a wider initiative led by Staffordshire County Council, with support from district and borough councils, including Lichfield District Council and Tamworth Borough Council.

Following successful rollouts in Newcastle-under-Lyme and parts of East Staffordshire, the campaign is now expanding to help boost recycling and reduce waste across more communities.

Councillor Phil Whitehouse, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Operational Services, Parks & Waste, said:

“This is quite a simple campaign and a fantastic opportunity to help increase the amount of recycling and reduce waste collected in our district.

“By asking people to stop and think before they throw recyclable items in their black bin, we are confident the campaign will help to boost recycling rates locally – remember every little bit helps save the planet.”

Councillor Dave Foster, Tamworth Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Environmental Sustainability, Waste and Recycling and Transport added:

“It’s often small changes that make a big difference.

“These bin stickers are a great reminder that many of the everyday items we throw away can actually be recycled. By working together, we can cut down on waste and help create a greener, cleaner Tamworth and Lichfield District.”
