Lichfield Litter Legends came together with residents and partner organisations in North Lichfield for a successful community clean-up event.
The ‘Be Proud Of Your Community Day' saw litter picked up, rubbish removed and skips filled at six locations including Windmill Lane and at Curborough Community Centre at Reynolds Close.
Running from 10.30am to 1.30pm last Saturday, the day was led by the Lichfield Litter Legends and supported by a range of partners including the Lichfield District Community Safety Partnership, Lichfield Police, Lichfield District Council’s Community Safety and Recycling Teams, housing association Bromford, MAMA (Mindfulness, Awareness and Martial Arts), Getin2It and The Rapid Relief Team.
Thanks to a generous grant from Lichfield City Council, six skips were provided by Barnes Skip Hire, giving residents a free and easy way to dispose of bulky waste and unwanted items.
The day was as much about community as it was about cleanliness. Families enjoyed face painting, soft archery, and martial arts demos, while plants donated by The Plant Plot helped brighten up the area. The Rapid Relief Team was also on hand, providing free food and refreshments for all.
Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Engagement, Councillor Richard Cox, said:
“The latest ‘Be Proud Of Your Community Day' was a great success. Lots of rubbish and litter was collected and removed and I’d like to thank the residents of North Lichfield, and all of our partners, who came out in force to participate.
“The event has made a real difference and shows what can be achieved when everyone works together.”
Bob Harrison of Lichfield Litter legends said:
“This is the third time we have been asked to work on a project designed to help residents in the north of Lichfield. Lichfield Litter Legends carry out regular litter picks in this area, but this project is more of a deep clean.
“After months of planning, the event went off smoothly and grateful residents were given the opportunity to dispose of lots of rubbish while Lichfield Litter Legends also carried out their normal litter picks around the area.
“A special thanks to The Rapid Relief Team who were on hand to supply food and drinks for everyone. It was a very successful day!”
Lichfield District Councillor Paul Ray, whose ward includes part of the clean-up area, said:
“This is the third 'Be Proud Of Your Community Day' we have run. I have been delighted to have been involved with this initiative throughout which aims to provide support for the community.
“Saturday’s event really brought the community together and I would like to thank all involved. The day was a great success and so appreciated by residents and their families.”
Elaine Terry, Neighbourhood and Community Manager at Bromford, said:
“Bromford was thrilled to be part of the recent ‘Be Proud Of Your Community Day’, working closely with customers, local organisations, and partners to create lasting change that helps communities thrive.
“It was a fantastic day, filled with energy and support, and it was inspiring to see so many people come together to make a difference. A big thank you to everyone who took part and showed their pride in the community!”
