Residents, volunteers and partner organisations came together in North Lichfield last week for a community clean-up event focused on improving local neighbourhoods and bringing people together.
The ‘Be Proud of Your Community Day’ saw volunteers help to clear litter, fill skips with unwanted rubbish and tidy public spaces across six locations including Windmill Lane and Curborough Community Centre at Reynolds Close.
The day was led by Lichfield Litter Legends in partnership with Lichfield District Council’s Community Safety Team, Lichfield Police, Bromford, Lichfield City Council and Harmony ASB and Mediation Service, alongside support from Liberty Jamboree – a local charity supporting young people with learning and physical disabilities, neurodiversity, and social and emotional mental health needs.
Alongside the clean-up activity, residents enjoyed free family activities including games and face painting, helping create a positive community atmosphere throughout the day. The Plant Plot donated potted flowers for residents to take home and Queens Fish and Chips Lichfield sponsored the event.
Eight skips were filled and volunteers from Lichfield Litter Legends collected 25 bags of rubbish during the day.
Bob Harrison of Lichfield Litter Legends said:
“This was the fourth ‘Be Proud of Your Community Day’ in North Lichfield in the past three years. The first skip was filled within 45 minutes and Litter Legends were busy picking around the area collecting 25 bags of litter.
“It was a successful day all round delivered with partner organisations and some very happy residents.”
Councillor Richard Cox, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Community and Public Protection, said:
“Be Proud of Your Community Day was a brilliant example of local people, community groups and organisations working together to make a positive difference.
“It was fantastic to see residents of all ages getting involved, meeting neighbours and taking pride in their area.
“These events are about much more than litter picking - they help strengthen community spirit, encourage people to look after where they live and create cleaner, safer and more welcoming neighbourhoods for everyone.”
