Thousands of residents, families, schools and community groups who use Burntwood Leisure Centre each year are set to benefit from a newly refurbished changing village which opened today.
The modernised changing village has been redesigned to create a brighter, more welcoming and accessible environment for everyone using the centre’s swimming facilities, from children attending lessons and families enjoying a swim to members of Burntwood Swimming Club and regular leisure centre users.
The refurbishment began in March and has included new changing cubicles, lockers, doors and partitions, alongside a full redecoration and upgraded fixtures and finishes. Throughout the works, the swimming pool remained open, ensuring lessons, training sessions and public swimming could continue.
The improvements form part of Lichfield District Council's ongoing commitment to investing in leisure facilities that support healthier, more active communities and improve quality of life for residents across the district.
Burntwood Leisure Centre has been at the heart of community life for generations, providing opportunities for people of all ages to learn new skills, improve their health, take part in sport and build lasting friendships. The new changing village will help ensure the centre continues to meet the needs of residents for years to come.
Rosalind Hallifax, a longstanding user of Burntwood Leisure Centre, said:
“The refurbished changing village is very welcome – I have been very impressed by the way it has been done with minimum disruption and the end result is very impressive.
“It will help me to enjoy the pool even more than before and I have been a regular user of the facilities, including the coffee bar, for many years.”
The reopening follows the recent refurbishment of Burntwood Leisure Centre’s gym and the opening of the new Lichfield Leisure Centre earlier this year, demonstrating Lichfield District Council’s continued investment in modern, high-quality leisure facilities that support the health and wellbeing of residents across Burntwood and Lichfield.
Councillor Andy Smith, Cabinet Member for Leisure & Major Projects at Lichfield District Council, said:
“For many local people, Burntwood Leisure Centre is where they learned to swim, joined a club, got active or spent time with family and friends. That’s why continuing to invest in facilities like these is so important.
“We’ve already seen the positive impact of the refurbished gym at Burntwood and the new leisure centre in Lichfield, and this latest improvement is another example of our commitment to providing facilities that help people lead healthier, happier lives.
“I’m delighted to see the new changing village open and look forward to seeing residents enjoy it for years to come.”
The new changing village reopened on Friday 26 June, giving residents an enhanced experience as they visit Burntwood Leisure Centre to swim, exercise and stay active.
