We have supported a joint vehicle check operation in Lichfield city centre as part of its wider work to keep residents, visitors and businesses safe.
The operation, carried out with Staffordshire Police and the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency, focused on road safety, vehicle standards and insurance compliance. It forms part of the council’s ongoing commitment to working with partners to prevent harm, tackle issues that affect local communities and help keep Lichfield District a safe and welcoming place.
Checks were carried out in Cross Keys, Bird Street and Birmingham Road, with 20 vehicles inspected for roadworthiness and insurance compliance.
One vehicle was immobilised, five were prohibited from the highway until tyre tread or anti-lock braking system repairs had been made, and four were issued with a delayed prohibition, meaning they could be driven home but nowhere else pending repairs.
Councillor Richard Cox, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Community and Public Protection, said:
“Keeping people safe is one of the most important things we do as a council, and road safety is part of that wider responsibility.
“Unsafe vehicles can put drivers, passengers, pedestrians and other road users at risk. This operation was about working with our partners to identify vehicles that should not be on the road and taking action before they cause harm.
“I would like to thank our Community Safety Team, Staffordshire Police and DVSA for their work. Partnership operations like this are an important part of creating a safer, cleaner and more welcoming district for everyone.”
The operation, which took place on Friday 26 June, supports our wider community safety work, which focuses on protecting the public, preventing harm, tackling crime and disorder, and working with partners to respond to issues that matter to local communities.
