Lichfield District Council’s Year-End Performance and Delivery Report shows strong progress across major projects, community investment and resident support despite rising demand and financial pressures.
A report presented to Lichfield District Council's Cabinet has highlighted the progress made over the past year across council services, major projects and community priorities.
The Year-End Performance and Delivery Report provides an overview of the council's performance during 2025/26, reflecting on the support provided to residents, progress made on major projects and delivery against the ambitions set out in the council's Lichfield District 2050 Strategy. Despite increasing demand for services, financial pressures and significant national change, the report shows continued progress across the council's priorities.
Over the past year, thousands of residents have begun enjoying the new Lichfield Leisure Centre, while the Greenway has transformed a former railway line into a 6.5-kilometre walking and cycling route connecting communities across the district. Alongside these flagship projects, the council invested £1.4 million into community infrastructure, including parks, play areas and sports facilities, while continuing to progress major regeneration projects including the Birmingham Road development, Linear Park, Burntwood Masterplan and the city centre cinema.
The report also highlights investment in people as well as places. Every resident who approached the council because they were homeless received support on the same day they made contact, helping people access advice and assistance when they needed it most. More than £1.2 million was invested helping older and disabled residents remain safe and independent in their own homes through Disabled Facilities Grants, while more than £250,000 was awarded to local charities and community organisations delivering wellbeing services, financial support, cultural activities and community programmes across the district.
The report also reflects continued investment in the district's future, including support for local businesses and young entrepreneurs, improvements to green spaces and biodiversity, new affordable housing, and projects designed to create healthier, more prosperous and better-connected communities.
Councillor Doug Pullen, Leader of Lichfield District Council, said:
"This report is about accountability. It gives residents an honest picture of what we've achieved over the past year, where we've made progress and where there's still more to do.
"We deliberately set ourselves ambitious targets because we believe our residents deserve the very best. We won't achieve every target every year, but we'll always be open about our performance, transparent about how we're using public money and focused on continually improving.
"Whether it's supporting vulnerable residents, investing in our towns and villages, improving health and wellbeing, protecting our environment or delivering regeneration projects that will benefit future generations, our ambition is always the same – to make a positive difference to people's everyday lives.
"I'm incredibly proud of what we've achieved together over the past year, but we're equally focused on what comes next. We'll continue listening, learning and working hard to deliver the services, projects and investment our communities deserve."
