Lichfield District Council has approved over £780,000 in CIL funding for 14 projects that will upgrade parks, sports facilities, schools and community spaces across the district.

Lichfield District Council's Cabinet has approved more than £780,000 of Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding for 14 projects that will improve parks, sports facilities, schools and community spaces across the district.

The funding, generated through new development across the district, will support projects that improve the facilities, spaces and infrastructure residents use every day. From community parks and play areas to grassroots sports clubs, schools and community buildings, the investment will help create healthier, more active and better connected communities.

Projects approved include improvements to Hopwas Community Park, a refurbished play area and changing facilities at Shenstone Playing Fields, a refurbished cricket pavilion at The Friary School, improvements to Drayton Bassett's BMX track and sports playing fields, new floodlights and accessibility improvements at Lichfield Rugby Club, replacement practice nets at Elford Cricket Club, and investment in community facilities including The Hub at St Mary's.

Together, the projects will improve opportunities for people of all ages to be active, support grassroots sport, enhance community spaces and ensure local facilities continue to meet the needs of growing communities.

Councillor Alex Farrell, Cabinet Member for Housing and Local Plan, said:

"As our district grows, it's important that our communities benefit too. Community Infrastructure Levy funding allows us to reinvest money from new development into projects that improve everyday life for residents.

"From parks and play areas to sports clubs, schools and community facilities, these projects will make a real difference to communities across the district. They will improve local facilities, encourage healthier lifestyles and create places that people can enjoy for many years to come.

"We're looking forward to seeing these projects take shape and sharing their progress with residents over the coming months."

Community Infrastructure Levy funding helps ensure that new development contributes towards the infrastructure needed to support growing communities. Projects are assessed against the council's priorities before funding is awarded, ensuring investment delivers the greatest possible benefit for residents.

Work on the successful projects is expected to begin over the coming months, with the council sharing updates as schemes progress and celebrating their completion with the communities they will benefit.
