An established Lichfield sandwich shop and catering business is celebrating serving its customers from bigger premises today – a building owned and recently refurbished by Lichfield District Council.

Lunch at Loafers had been trading for four years from another council-owned unit in Bore Street when new premises, just a few doors along, became available.

But it badly needed updating so last November Lichfield District Council started work installing a new staircase, adding a gas supply into the building and upgrading the electrics.

After the work was completed in January Lunch at Loafers adapted the building to its needs by installing a commercial kitchen, decorating the interior and creating both upstairs and downstairs dining areas.

An event was held earlier today to mark the opening.

The owner of Lunch at Loafers, Carl Luke, said:

“Lunch at Loafers has come a long way since 2019. As a family-run business we are really excited about the new opportunities to come.

“We would like to thank Lichfield District Council, who have worked alongside us and supported us through the process.

“We have managed to expand our takeaway service and open as a bistro offering a relaxed, beautiful seating area and delicious food in an amazing venue.”

Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for High Streets and Visitor Economy, Janice Silvester-Hall, said:

“It is great to see a council-owned property in a prime city centre location being put to good use accommodating a thriving and popular Lichfield business.

“The bigger premises enable Lunch at Loafers to offer more to its customers and we wish Carl and his team every success.”

Helen McKenzie, Project Manager at Lichfield District Council’s trading company Lichfield West Midlands Trading Services, said:

“It’s been an absolute pleasure seeing this project through from conception to completion. I am delighted we have been able to assist an established Lichfield business in finding a new home.”
