Lichfield Proms in Beacon Park 2010

Proms in the park

Lichfield's Proms took place on Saturday 5 September 2009. Around 6,000 local people and visitors descended on Beacon Park over the weekend to enjoy a spectacular outdoor concert, organised by Lichfield District Council. Proms in the Park, now in its eleventh year, is a huge free celebration of music, al fresco dining and fireworks.

The evening's festivities started at 6pm when the council's Mobile Leisure team were on hand with a massive inflatable caterpillar, hula hoops, and a giant football, so that children could play away while their parents set up their camps.

Then the main concert started at 7.30pm with a varied programme of popular classical music and songs from hit shows.

Musical highlights included Summertime - played by The British Police Symphony Orchestra, Impossible Dream - performed by Bella Musica! and Rhythm of Life from Sweet Charity performed by Lichfield Operatic Society.

The evening was brought to a close with a rousing sing-along to Rule Britannia, followed by Jerusalem and Pomp and Circumstance March No 1. Finally, the night ended with a bang with a stunning fireworks display.
