Planning permission for businesses
You’ll probably need planning permission if you want to:
- build something new
- make a major change to your business - such as building an extension
- change the use of your building - from residential to office for example
- changes if your business is based in a listed building or in a conservation area
Visit our planning homepage or use the links on the right to find out more about planning permission.
Always find out if you need planning permission
If your project needs planning permission and you do the work without getting it, you can be served an ‘enforcement notice’ ordering you to undo all the changes you have made, so make sure you find out about planning permission before you make any major changes to your home. Visit our planning homepage to find out more.
You might not need planning permission
Some building projects don’t need planning permission, such as small home extensions. That said, we always recommend you check with us first and we can advise you on whether or not you need planning permission and can also advise you on the building control support you will need. Visit our planning homepage to find out more.
Get pre-application advice
If you need planning permission - from a new shopping centre through to a commercial development, we recommend you let us check out your plans first, before you apply - this can save you time and money in the long-run. Find out more about our pre-application planning service.
