Set up or join a Neighbourhood Watch

Neighbourhood Watch Network is the UK’s largest community crime prevention movement, bringing neighbours together to help reduce crime and create safer, more connected communities.

It’s a simple idea - people looking out for each other - but it has a powerful impact.

Why get involved?

Being part of Neighbourhood Watch isn’t about patrolling the streets or taking on lots of responsibility - it’s about staying informed, connected, and aware.

You’ll benefit from:

  • The latest updates from the police about crime and scams in your area.
  • Opportunities to meet and engage with local police teams.
  • Knowing what’s happening locally - and what to look out for.
  • Building stronger relationships with your neighbours.
  • Helping protect more vulnerable members of your community.

If you like being the person who’s in the know, sharing useful information, and keeping your finger on the pulse of what’s happening locally - Neighbourhood Watch is a great fit.

You become that go-to person for the latest updates, while also playing a key role in helping keep your neighbourhood safe.

It’s easier than you might think

Getting involved doesn’t require a big time commitment. Even small actions - like sharing updates or keeping an eye out - can make a real difference.

Neighbourhood Watch works through awareness, communication and community spirit, not through heavy responsibilities.

How to join

  • Find your local scheme at Neighbourhood Watch.
  • If there is a scheme in your area, sign up for alerts and updates and get involved.

How to set up a Neighbourhood Watch

If there isn’t a scheme in your area, setting one up is straightforward - and support is available every step of the way.

  • Register with Neighbourhood Watch - sign up your scheme to access guidance, resources and support.
  • Book to come along to one of our free introductory sessions this August - the sessions are taking place on MSTeams, so you can do them from the comfort of your home. The sessions are a max one hour long and will feature other local Neighbourhood Watch coordinators to give you a taste of why they do it and how it benefits them and their local community.
  • The sessions will take place on:
  • Talk to your neighbours - start by chatting to people nearby to gauge interest and identify any local concerns.
  • Choose a coordinator - this person acts as the main point of contact, sharing updates and linking with police and partners.
  • Set up simple communication - use a WhatsApp group, email list or informal catch-ups to share updates and raise concerns.
  • Spread the word - Promote your scheme with window stickers, street signage and by welcoming new members - these are provided FREE by Neighbourhood Watch.

Neighbourhood Watch schemes rely on local people working together, and even a small group can have a big impact.

By staying informed and connected, you’re helping to make your area safer for everyone.
