Air fryers
Air fryers and other small kitchen appliances can be handy and efficient, but like all electrical items, they need to be used with care to keep you and your household safe.
To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock:
- Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions when using any appliance.
- Place air fryers on a flat, heat-resistant surface, away from walls and flammable items like curtains or tea towels.
- Don’t leave cooking unattended – even air fryers can overheat or cause smoke if something goes wrong.
- Keep appliances clean and free of grease to prevent fire hazards.
- Unplug when not in use – this also helps save energy.
Check your plugs and sockets
- Don’t overload sockets or extension leads – appliances like air fryers draw a lot of power.
- Use only one heat-producing appliance per socket.
- Check plugs and cords for signs of damage before each use.
Register your appliance
Registering your appliance with the manufacturer ensures you’ll be notified if there’s a safety recall. You can also visit www.registermyappliance.org.uk to sign up.
Dispose of appliances safely
If an appliance is damaged, faulty or no longer needed, don’t throw it in the bin. Use your local recycling centre or electrical collection service.
Stay protected
- Keep a working smoke alarm on every level of your home, and install a carbon monoxide alarm in every room with a fuel-burning appliance, such as a boiler, wood burner, or open fire.
- Test your alarms regularly.
- Have an escape plan and make sure everyone in the household knows it.
- If a fire does start, get out, stay out, and call 999.
