District councillors

Local councillors are elected by the community to decide how the council should carry out its various activities.

They represent people living within the ward in they have been elected to serve a term of office and may also have responsiblity for other committees, such as cabinet, planning and overview and scrutiny.

They have regular contact with the general public through meetings, emails, telephone calls and surgeries.

Surgeries provide an opportunity for any ward resident to go and talk their councillor face to face and these take place on a regular basis - contact your local councillor to find out when their next surgery is taking place.

Councillors are not paid a salary for their work, but they do receive allowances - find out more. 

There are 46 councillors who represent the 22 wards in the district. Some wards are represented by more than one councillor.

Cabinet

Cabinet members are responsible for certain services in the council - from finance and procurement through to housing and the local plan, and help to make decisions on key policies and projects. Cabinet members are also local ward councillors.
