Have your say on our budget for 2027/28
We’re planning Lichfield District Council’s budget for 2027/28 and want to hear what matters most to you.
Our budget pays for more than 60 services across Lichfield District – from waste and recycling, parks and leisure to housing and homelessness, planning, environmental health and regeneration.
The consultation is your opportunity to tell us which services are most important to you, where you think we should prioritise spending and what you think represents good value for money.
Where does your Council Tax go?
Although you pay your Council Tax bill to Lichfield District Council, we only keep around 9% of the total bill.
The rest goes to organisations including Staffordshire County Council, police, fire and parish councils.
For an average household, around £3.88 a week currently goes towards the services provided by Lichfield District Council.
Our share helps pay for services including:
- waste and recycling
- parks and open spaces
- leisure and wellbeing
- housing and homelessness
- planning and development
- environmental protection
- community safety
- regeneration and supporting our local economy
- arts, events, heritage and tourism.
What do we spend?
In 2026/27, Lichfield District Council will spend around £16.1 million on net services, after income.
Some of the services we provide are essential or must be provided by law. We need to make sure there is enough funding available to deliver these services safely and effectively.
In other areas, we have more choice about what we provide and how much we spend.
That means setting our budget involves choices about where we protect spending, where we invest more and where we could spend less.
What are we asking you?
You don’t need to know how a council budget works to take part.
We’ll give you information as you go and ask you about:
- which council services are most important to you
- where you think we should reduce, protect or increase spending
- what level of increase in Lichfield District Council’s share of Council Tax, if any, you would consider acceptable
- whether you think our services provide value for money
- any ideas you have about how we could manage our budget or deliver services differently.
Your feedback will help inform the decisions we make when setting the council’s budget for 2027/28.
