Temporary accommodation

We are committed to supporting people facing homelessness to find safe, short-term accommodation while we help them secure a more permanent home.

This could include providing accommodation directly, or offering advice and support to help you find somewhere suitable to stay.

Before considering temporary accommodation, we will always explore whether there are safe ways for you to remain in your current home or stay with family or friends while longer-term housing options are secured. This is often less disruptive than moving into emergency accommodation and helps people maintain their links to work, school, family and support networks.

Am I eligible?

You may be eligible for temporary accommodation if we have reason to believe, based on the information you provide, that you are:

• Homeless.
• Eligible for assistance (have appropriate citizenship or immigration status).
• Have priority need.

Do you need somewhere to stay tonight?

If you have nowhere safe to stay tonight and we have reason to believe that you may be homeless, eligible for assistance and in priority need, we may provide emergency accommodation while we assess your homelessness application.

Emergency accommodation is often initially provided in a bed and breakfast and may be outside the district, depending on availability. In homelessness law, this is known as interim accommodation.
