Dangerous and wild animals licence

You will need a licence if you wish to keep a dangerous wild animal as defined in the schedule of species attached to the Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976.

The list is extensive and includes all species of wildlife.

The dangerous wild animal licence does not apply to animals kept in a zoo, circus, licensed pet shop or place of scientific research.

How to apply

You will need to complete an application form and pay a fee to apply - please email our licensing team or call us on 01543 308735 for more information. 

Once we have received your completed application form, we will assess the information and contact you to arrange an inspection. 

What if I have information about a dangerous wild animal being kept in the area?

If you want to pass on any information or concerns about any dangerous and wild animals that are currently being kept in the area, please contact us by emailing licensing@lichfielddc.gov.uk

Animal licences include a star rating from one to five stars with five stars being the top rating. Ratings are based on animal welfare standards and how the licence holder manages risks.
