Taxi compliance testing

A taxi compliance test checks that your vehicle meets road safety and environmental standards and is safe to be used by the public. It also checks the cleanliness and appearance of the interior and exterior and makes sure it complies with our taxi policy.

Your compliance test must be carried out by Terry Turner Autos. You can get your compliance test completed up to 28 days before you submit your application and you will need a copy of the certificate in order to apply.

Before taking your vehicle to be tested, please make sure;

  • your vehicle is clean. If the vehicle is so dirty that examination is unreasonably difficult, the garage will not undertake the test
  • all parts of the vehicle can be opened, such as a door, tailgate, boot, engine cover or the fuel cap
  • the vehicle is not in a dangerous condition and considered unsafe
  • the vehicle’s registration mark, Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or frame number can be clearly read
  • the vehicle has sufficient fuel and oil
  • the vehicle is not emitting substantial quantities of smoke.

The vehicle includes an examination of the interior of the vehicle so please make sure it is as clean as possible.

Frequency of testing

Once your vehicle is licensed, you will need to submit it for a compliance test every 12 months up to when the vehicle is 5 years old. After 5 years, the vehicle must be tested every 6 months.
