We’re responsible for maintaining Lichfield District’s Local Land and Property Gazetteer (LLPG) - our central, go-to database for everything related to land and property in the area.
We also take care of street naming and numbering services.
What Is the LLPG?
Think of the LLPG as the official record of all properties and land in Lichfield District. It’s built to a national standard (BS7666), which ensures the data is consistent, accurate, and easy to share.
Each property in the database has a Unique Property Reference Number (UPRN), which helps us and other organisations identify and link property information quickly and clearly.
But the LLPG is more than just a list of addresses. It includes a wide range of locations, from homes and businesses to places like churches, recycling points, phone boxes, telecoms masts, and substations. It even includes grid coordinates and historical changes, so we can track how properties evolve over time.
We regularly update the LLPG using a combination of local knowledge and national validation. This ensures that every department within the council - from planning and council tax to electoral registration - works with the same accurate information. And because the LLPG feeds into the National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG), our data also supports services across England and Wales.
Why it matters
Having one trusted source of address data helps us deliver services more efficiently. When a change is made in the LLPG, it’s automatically shared across all relevant departments, cutting down on duplication and keeping everyone on the same page.
As we move more services online, the LLPG plays a big role in helping residents find accurate, up-to-date information. It also improves our ability to respond quickly to property-related queries and supports smarter, joined-up decision making.
On a national level, the data we provide helps coordinate services between local councils and key partners like the police and fire services — making sure everyone has the information they need, when they need it.
