We have, in partnership with the Lichfield District Community Safety Partnership, unveiled a new online resource aimed at helping residents protect their vehicles from theft.
The Stop Car Theft hub offers practical advice and information on the latest security methods and measures to combat vehicle crime in the district.
As part of the initiative, residents are invited to take part in a competition designed to raise awareness about car security. Supported by companies including Justice Fire and Security from Lichfield and surrounding areas, Anker Bollards from Lichfield, Secure-It Driveways from Sutton Coldfield, Sutton Bollards, and Defender Security Products, competition entrants can be in with the chance to win one of three driveway bollards and fitting, fifty Faraday pouches, four Apple Tags and two steering wheel locks, encouraging community engagement in crime prevention efforts.
Councillor Richard Cox, Cabinet Member for Community Engagement at Lichfield District Council and Chair of the Lichfield District Community Safety Partnership, said:
“Vehicle theft is a major concern for many people in our community.
“We share their concern and have therefore created this resource to help people protect their vehicles. Our new resource hub offers residents the tools and information they need. We hope the accompanying competition adds an interactive element to our campaign, promoting awareness in a fun and engaging way in partnership with great companies who can help residents.”
Dave Sanders, Managing Director at Justice Security said:
“Vehicle theft remains a serious issue, with criminals using sophisticated methods like relay devices to steal cars. We’re proud to support Lichfield District Council by giving away our latest innovation - the Car Defender unit when installed as part of one of our intruder alarm systems. It integrates with our home intruder alarm system and is designed to protect vehicles parked on driveways or near the home.”
Ella Hughes, Ecommerce Manager at Defender Security Products added:
“We think the Stop Car Theft Hub is a great idea and we’re proud to support Lichfield District Council in raising awareness around vehicle security.
“At Defender Security Products, we’re committed to helping communities protect what matters most. Donating our Faraday pouches is just one way we’re contributing to this important initiative, which educates residents and helps prevent potential crime through simple, effective solutions.”
James Keatley, of Sutton Bollards, said:
“At Sutton Bollards, we’re proud to support efforts to raise awareness around the growing issue of driveway car crime. Far too often, we’re contacted after a vehicle has already been stolen. That’s why we’re encouraging people to act early — car theft is on the rise, and taking preventative measures now can make all the difference.”
Adam Smith, Director at Secure-It Driveways, said:
“We are happy to support the campaign, and raise awareness of our driveway bollards, at this time of high car thefts.”
The Stop Car Theft hub includes tips on securing vehicles, advice on the use of signal-blocking pouches for keyless entry cars, and guidance on reporting suspicious activity. Residents can access the hub and enter the competition by visiting the Stop Car Theft web page.
This initiative aligns with the council's and the Community Safety Partnership’s commitment to community safety and its ongoing efforts to reduce crime in the district.
