Two mature poplar trees located near Morrisons and Greenhough Road car park on Beacon Park’s golf course have been fenced off following advice from a qualified tree specialist.
This precaution has been taken purely on health and safety grounds after the trees were found to be shedding branches, posing a potential risk to people using nearby footpaths and open areas, including parts of the Greenhough Road car park.
The trees are believed to date from the early 1960s and have a usual life span of 50 years.
Whilst a a final decision on the future of the trees has not yet been made, we are currently assessing the best and safest course of action and will update this webpage in due course.
We understand the importance of trees to our local environment and landscape, and any necessary decisions will be made carefully and with consideration to the wider park setting.
