Burntwood Leisure Centre has completed a full refurbishment of its gym, creating a modern, welcoming space with 60 brand new pieces of premium, state-of-the-art equipment and a fresh, revitalised look.
The transformation includes the installation of TRAKK – an advanced training system offering gym-goers an unrivalled way to track their workouts both in and outside the gym. TRAKK enables users to set fitness goals, create personalised workout plans, and monitor their progress via the free app. It will also be used alongside the newly introduced Tanita Body Composition system to support long-term health and longevity.
As part of the upgrade, the gym now features a multi-functional rig, allowing members to perform a wide variety of strength and functional training exercises. This addition complements the premium cardio, pin selected resistance and plate loaded strength equipment, catering to all fitness levels and training goals.
The refurbishment supports Lichfield District Council’s 2050 Strategy, which prioritises building active, healthy communities, and forms part of a further £13.2 million investment in local leisure facilities. This includes the new Lichfield leisure centre and 3G pitch, gym refurbishment and wetside changing village at Burntwood Leisure Centre, as well as new Padel, Adventure Golf and Pitch & Putt facilities in Beacon Park.
Alongside the improvements to Burntwood Leisure Centre, the brand-new Lichfield Leisure Centre is due to open in December 2025, with both sites managed by LWM, the council’s wholly owned trading company.
Councillor Andy Smith, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure & Major Projects, said:
“This is an exciting step forward for Burntwood Leisure Centre and for our community. We know how important it is to provide high-quality, accessible facilities that encourage people to get active, and this refurbishment, with the addition of innovative TRAKK technology and premium equipment, does exactly that. It’s part of our wider investment in leisure across the district, which will soon include the brand-new leisure centre opening later this year in Lichfield – and members will be able to enjoy access to both sites as part of their membership, and also Friary Grange Leisure Centre until the new centre opens.”
The newly refurbished gym opens Saturday 16 August, with memberships available at Active Lichfield.
Membership includes full use of the gym, public swimming pool sessions throughout the week, access to over 50 instructed classes, and unlimited use of the Health Suite (including sauna and steam room). Members also receive up to 30% off court bookings and access to both Burntwood and Friary Grange Leisure Centres.
