Thousands are expected to flock to Beacon Park this Saturday, 6 September, for the 26th Lichfield Proms in Beacon Park, a much-loved evening of music, community and celebration that marks the close of summer in the district.
The free outdoor event will once again feature the acclaimed British Police Symphony Orchestra, who will perform a spectacular programme of operetta, famous film scores and traditional Proms favourites. Families and friends are invited to bring picnics, wave their flags and enjoy the magic of live music under the stars, with the evening culminating in a rousing fireworks finale.
This year’s event will be hosted by well-known local auctioneer Richard Winterton, who takes on the role of compere for the first time.
Richard Winterton said:
“I am honoured and delighted to act as compere for the British Police Symphony Orchestra at Lichfield’s Proms in Beacon Park.
“The Proms is such a special fixture in Lichfield District’s calendar as families and friends gather to wave farewell to the summer.
“With a fabulous programme of operetta, famous film scores and sing-along Proms favourites, it’s going to be a spectacular evening.”
He added:
“Danny Mizon’s are huge shoes to step into. He will be missed this year as he recovers from prostate cancer surgery and we all wish him well.”
Lichfield Proms in Beacon Park, which we organise, is made possible thanks to the generous support of local sponsors. The council extends its gratitude to this year’s Headline Sponsors Ansons Law and Bloor Homes.

Councillor Phil Whitehouse, Cabinet Member for Operational Services, Parks & Waste at Lichfield District Council, said:
“Lichfield Proms in Beacon Park is one of the highlights of our cultural calendar and we’re proud to be delivering it for the 26th year. None of this would be possible without the support of all of our sponsors and partners, and we look forward to welcoming thousands of people this weekend for another unforgettable evening in Beacon Park.”
